Creepy crawlies Series (2025)
Group exhibition
Group exhibition hosted by Boncleo (@boncleoart). Held on the 28th March 2025.
This series, I explore my concept of self through bug-human hybrids, translating my experiences of navigating the world into their existence. I embed my emotions and experiences within these creatures, hoping they reflect my inner world.
Big World
I am just a bug in the world. A big world. Looking up into the blue. It’s so big.
I crawl into a rock but it’s still big. Up here I can see other creatures Some are frolicking freely and others graze gracefully. Their worlds seem just the right size.
With tiny feet I carry myself Up and up and up but I’m so tired And the world is still so big. On a small leaf I curl up tight Closing my eyes I remember
I am just a bug in a big world.
Boys, Bugs and Men
Depicting my child self as a moth in this piece I named artwork after the song “Boys, bugs and men” by Paris Paloma. I have taken parts to include which I feel beautiful encapsulate.
“You said those words and suddenly, I’m five and boys are bringing bugs just to kill them for my eyes
I see hunger looking for a sign That any of your destruction had me suffering inside
You take such delight In killing my light
I’m bending to the ground just to pick up little worms Before me is a man who cares not for little things
And now I have my answer, from when I wondered who Those little boys became because they grew up to be you
You’ve been playing with your power
for a long time.”
Tendril
Glistening dew drops, With tangling tendrils curl their delicate fingers round body’s.
Spilling sweet nectar Slowing feeding, with every drip consuming me whole
